The purpose of this project is to provide:

  • the highest standard of childbirth assistant information and doula certification
  • hospitals, healthcare agencies and families with a source of competent, well-educated and reliable doulas who abide by the Doulas of North America (DONA) Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
  • communication and open dialogues between doulas and hospital, doctors and healthcare agencies
  • continuing education, on-going support and mentorship for doulas
  • a referral service for doulas
  • information and support for childbearing families and medical professionals
  • a means of increasing the well-being and satisfaction rate of childbirth and postpartum experiences
  • free doula services for minorities, women whose partners are away at war, and others in need
  • help in securing financial compensation for doula services
  • validation for the need to improve birth outcomes by including doulas in the birth team
  • increased awareness to gentle birthing and postpartum nurturing
  • professional, informational materials for qualifying doulas to help promote their business
  • peer review when necessary
  • facilitated access to funding for doula training and related projects
