How can I be a
part of DoulaCare Hawai’i?

All doulas are welcome to come to the
DoulaCare Hawai’i’s continuing education and support group
gatherings.
To qualify for inclusion in the DoulaCare Hawai’i
Referral System (web-site listing,
hospital recommendation listings, hot-line listing, DoulaCare Hawai’i Share-Call, and use
of DoulaCare Hawai’i’s brochures, posters, coupons and business
cards), a doula must agree to comply with the DONA Standards and Ethics
and have either:
- taken the Barefoot Doctors’ Academy
(BFDA)’s Childbirth Assistant & Doula Certification
Program.
OR
- completed certification
requirements from an ALACE or DONA program, plus attended a hospital
orientation with a BFDA representative, and attend at least 3 hours of doula
or midwifery
continuing education opportunities per year. Documentation required,
however current doula certification not necessary.
OR
- gone through a BFDA-approved doula
course and have attended at least 25 births in the role of a
doula---documentation required.
